Tips for Crete summer festivals
- Rent a car - Crete is big (260km east to west). A rental car is the best way to combine festivals with beach time and sightseeing
- Book accommodation in advance - festival periods fill up, especially in Matala (tiny village) and Rethymnon old town
- Bring water and sunscreen - Crete in summer hits 35°C+. All three festivals are partly or fully outdoors
- Try the local food - Cretan cuisine is legendary. Try dakos (rusk with tomato and feta), kalitsounia (cheese pies), and local wine and raki
