At LUGGit we understand that packing can be one of the most stressful parts of your trip. It has happened to all of us: when you are boarding at the airport and the person at the counter tells you that your luggage is over the allowed weight or dimensions. Then you realize that either you pay a supplement, or you have to put on all the sweatshirts you intended to carry in your suitcase.
Don't worry! To help you with this dilemma, we have compiled the luggage policies of the main "lowcost" airlines in the following article.
When you book a cheap flight, your intention is to save money. But when it comes to luggage, this can backfire and become a real nightmare! Carefully studying the luggage policy of each airline before booking a flight can make the difference between a cheap flight and a really more expensive one.
Most low-cost airlines allow you to carry a small bag of maximum 5 kilograms for free. This luggage, generally a laptop bag, must have approximate measurements of 45 x 36 x 20 centimeters and fit under the front seat. Now, if you want to carry on board a carry-on suitcase of up to 10 kg, you must pay. The price will depend on the airline and also on the route. There are airlines that include 10 kg hand luggage if you buy a priority seat, as is the case with Ryanair, WizzAir or EasyJet. Vueling charges 40 euros if you show up at the airport with a carry-on suitcase without having paid for it on its website.
Only AirEuropa, Volotea and Jet2.com allow to carry up to 10 kg on board free of charge.
Below, you can see a complete table with the hand luggage policies of the 16 main low-cost airlines.

All low-cost airlines charge for carrying a suitcase in the hold of the plane. The size, in general, is a total of 158 centimeters (height + length + width) with a weight ranging from 15 to 23 kg. EasyJet charges 8.99 euros to check a 15 kg suitcase. Vueling, 11 euros for a 15 kg one and 13 euros for a 20 kg suitcase.
It should be remembered that it is always cheaper to buy the right to check baggage in advance through the airline's website. If done at the airport, the cost can increase by up to 40%.
As for penalties for carrying excess baggage, most lowcost companies charge a fixed price per extra kg up to a maximum of 32 kg per piece of luggage. EasyJet charges 15 euros per extra kg, Vueling 12 euros, Norwegian 14 euros or Ryanair 9 euros.
