Places to Visit in Mykonos

Gare do Oriente is Lisbon's busiest intermodal station - trains from Porto and the Algarve, the metro red line, and long-distance buses all land here. If you're arriving early and your hotel check-in isn't until the afternoon, or you want to explore Parque das Nações without dragging a suitcase past the Oceanário, you need somewhere to leave your bags.

You have three options at Oriente: the self-service lockers inside the station, a storage app using a nearby shop, or a pickup service that meets you at the station and takes the bags off your hands. We checked all three in August 2026.

The lockers are the fastest if you're coming straight off a train and returning to Oriente later. If you're not coming back - flying out from Lisbon Airport, heading to a cruise terminal, or checking into a hotel across town - a pickup service avoids the return trip entirely.

The lockers inside Oriente station

Oriente has self-service electronic lockers run by Portugal Luggage, the same Portuguese operator that runs lockers at Campanhã, São Bento, Santa Apolónia, Rossio, Entrecampos and other CP stations since 1989. At Oriente, the lockers are inside the intermodal station, next to the PSP (police) office.

Three sizes are available, matching the standard across Lisbon and Porto stations:

Size

Dimensions (mm)

Price per day

Small

340 × 433 × 798

€6.00

Medium

340 × 588 × 798

€7.50

Large

512 × 897 × 798

€9.00

Two practical notes. Opening hours follow the station's schedule, so the lockers aren't available around the clock. If your train gets in very late or you need bags stored overnight, double-check before you rely on them. And capacity is limited - the whole Portugal Luggage network is 504 lockers across ten stations, so Oriente holds a fraction of that. In summer, especially midday when the Porto and Algarve trains arrive, the large lockers fill up first.

For locker problems, Portugal Luggage's contact line is (+351) 917 234 729.

Meeting a LUGGit Keeper (Driver) at Oriente

LUGGit works the other way round from a locker: instead of you finding the storage, a Keeper (Driver) comes to you. We cover both parts of Oriente - the train/metro station and the bus terminal - which matters, because they're a short walk apart and plenty of people arrive at one and leave from the other.

Where to meet your Keeper (Driver)

Oriente train/metro station

Near the Galp sign, on the sidewalk underneath the sign

Coming off a train, go down to street level and exit towards "Avenida D. João II" - you'll see Vasco da Gama Shopping Centre across the street. Your Keeper (Driver) will be waiting near the crosswalk, underneath the overpass, on the station side. Coming from the metro, take the same exit. You'll get their name, vehicle and phone number about 30 minutes beforehand.

  • From €2 per bag, with the price per bag dropping as you add more.
  • No return trip - drop bags at Oriente and collect them at the airport, your hotel, the cruise terminal, or anywhere else in Lisbon.
  • Sealed in front of you with a tamper-proof tag, then stored in a monitored facility.
  • Insured up to €1,200 per bag on the Flexible plan.
  • Bulky items are fine - surfboards, bikes and golf clubs won't fit a station locker, but they fit a van.

Storage apps near Oriente

Bounce, Stasher, and LuggageHero don't operate their own storage sites - they partner with shops, cafes and hotels nearby. Coverage around Oriente is better than at most stations because of the Parque das Nações commercial area.

The closest Bounce partner is a retail store in Parque das Nações, about 4 minutes' walk from the station (4.74 stars, 252 reviews). They charge €3.50 per bag per day - not the €1.95 headline you'll see on the Bounce website, which is a global advertised minimum that doesn't reflect actual Lisbon pricing. Stasher advertises from €1.49/day with up to €12,000 guarantee. LuggageHero charges from €1/hour but adds a one-time service fee per bag at checkout.

Since the host is a business, its opening hours are your constraint - a shop that closes at 20:00 means you need to pick up before then, and Sunday hours can be shorter.

What's near Oriente station

Oriente sits at the heart of Parque das Nações, Lisbon's modern waterfront district built for Expo '98. If you're storing bags here, it's probably because you want to explore the area before catching a train or heading to the airport. The highlights within walking distance:

  • Oceanário de Lisboa - Europe's largest indoor aquarium, about 10 minutes on foot from the station
  • Vasco da Gama Shopping Centre - directly across from the station entrance, useful for a quick meal or supplies
  • Teleferíco de Lisboa - the cable car runs along the riverfront with views over the Tagus
  • FIL / Altice Arena - Lisbon's main convention and concert venue, 8 minutes' walk
  • The station itself - Santiago Calatrava's architecture is worth a look before you leave

Getting to the airport from Oriente

Lisbon Airport is on the metro red line, the same line that serves Oriente. It's a direct ride - about 8 minutes, €1.65 with a Viva Viagem card (plus the €0.50 card if you don't have one). This makes Oriente the most convenient major station for catching a flight.

If you'd rather skip the metro with luggage, you can have bags collected at Oriente in the morning and handed back at the airport before your flight. Our Lisbon Airport to city centre guide has the full transport breakdown.

Frequently asked questions

Are there luggage lockers at Lisbon Oriente station?

Yes. Portugal Luggage runs self-service electronic lockers at Gare do Oriente, located inside the station next to the PSP police office. Three sizes are available: small (€6/day), medium (€7.50/day) and large (€9/day). Opening hours follow the station's schedule, so they aren't available around the clock. If the lockers are full or closed, LUGGit meets you at the station entrance from €2/bag.

How much does luggage storage cost at Oriente station?

It depends on the option. The official Portugal Luggage lockers charge €6 to €9 per day depending on size. Storage apps near the station advertise from €1.49 per bag per day, though the Oriente-area locations we checked in August 2026 charge €3.50 at Bounce. LUGGit starts at €2 per bag with pickup and delivery included, so there's no return trip to the station.

Can I store luggage at Oriente overnight?

Not in the station lockers - their hours track the station's, so they aren't a safe bet for overnight storage. Some storage app partner shops close as early as 20:00. For overnight or multi-day storage, LUGGit holds bags from a few hours up to six months in a monitored facility and delivers them back whenever you need them.

Where exactly do I meet a LUGGit Keeper (Driver) at Oriente?

At the train/metro station, your Keeper (Driver) meets you at the main entrance facing Vasco da Gama Shopping Centre - near the crosswalk underneath the overpass, on the station side of the road. From the metro, exit at "Avenida D. João II." At the bus station, your Keeper (Driver) waits near the Galp sign on the sidewalk. You'll receive their name, vehicle details and phone number about 30 minutes before pickup.

We collect your bags, store them securely and deliver them wherever and whenever you choose.
