Operafest Lisboa & Oeiras runs from August 5 to September 11, 2026, with performances across Lisbon and Oeiras. If you're catching an evening show on the day you check out - or squeezing in opera between hotels - here's how to store your luggage.
Operafest is Lisbon's biggest opera festival, now in its 7th edition. The 2026 theme is "Enigma", celebrating the centenary of Puccini's unfinished opera Turandot. Performances happen at the Convento da Cartuxa in Caxias (Oeiras), the Teatro Camões, the Culturgest, and other venues across Lisbon.
Highlights include a full production of Turandot, Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro on August 14-15, open-air opera, cinema screenings, and contemporary Portuguese opera premieres. Many events are outdoors in the evenings - perfect for a summer night in Lisbon.
Opera venues don't have luggage storage. The Convento da Cartuxa is in Caxias, a 20-minute drive west of central Lisbon - there are no lockers nearby and you can't bring suitcases into the monastery courtyard. If you're checking out of your Lisbon hotel and heading to an evening show in Oeiras, you need somewhere to leave your bags.
LUGGit is the simplest option because you don't go anywhere. A Keeper (Driver) in an orange vest picks up your bags from your hotel, Airbnb, or anywhere in Lisbon, and delivers them later - to your next hotel, the airport, or a train station.
Prices start at €2/bag. Every bag is insured up to €1,200 and sealed with a tamper-proof tag. You get real-time WhatsApp updates throughout.

If you're going to a show in Oeiras, the challenge is that most storage locations are in central Lisbon. You'd need to drop off bags, take the train to Caxias, then come back to Lisbon to collect them. With LUGGit, you skip all of that - they come to you and deliver wherever you need after the show.

Is there luggage storage at Operafest venues?
No. The Convento da Cartuxa in Oeiras, Teatro Camões, and other Operafest venues don't offer luggage storage or cloakrooms for suitcases. Store your bags with LUGGit (from €2/bag, picked up from your location) or at a Bounce or Radical Storage drop-off point in central Lisbon before heading to the show.
When is Operafest Lisboa 2026?
Operafest Lisboa & Oeiras 2026 runs from August 5 to September 11. The main productions include Puccini's Turandot and Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro (August 14-15). Check operafestlisboa.com for the full calendar and ticket availability.
How do I get to the Convento da Cartuxa from Lisbon?
Take the Cascais train line from Cais do Sodré station to Caxias (about 20 minutes, €1.80 per trip with Viva Viagem). The Convento is a short walk from Caxias station. Trains run every 20 minutes until late evening.
How much does luggage storage cost in Lisbon?
LUGGit starts at €2/bag with pickup and delivery anywhere in Lisbon. Bounce charges from €1.95/day at 279+ fixed locations. Radical Storage charges from €1.60/day. LUGGit is the only option that picks up and delivers - the others require you to walk to a location, drop off bags, and walk back later to collect them.
Can I combine Operafest with a day trip to Cascais?
Yes - the Cascais train line passes through Caxias (where the Convento da Cartuxa is) on the way to Cascais. You could spend the day at Cascais beach, then stop in Caxias for an evening opera performance. Store your bags with LUGGit so you're not carrying them on the train.
